5 Years of Forge of Empires!

from The Forge of Empires team on 4/18/17 at 11:16 PM

Dear Queens and Kings!

Can you believe that Forge of Empires is celebrating its 5th anniversary this year?
We went through many ups and downs and achieved numerous milestones since 2012. We would like to thank you for playing Forge of Empires and for supporting us during the last five years :). We'd also like to extend our special thanks to all of the regular forum members who constantly provide us with feedback, as well as supporters and moderators, who helped make the community what it is today :).

To celebrate our 5th birthday, Madame Fortuna, who made her first appearance during Forge of Empires's 1st anniversary, will return to your city on April 20th. She'll take you on a short sentimental ride through the history of Forge of Empires. At the end of her small questline, you will be rewarded with new, more majestic versions of the Queen and the King buildings. They make up a new set with a third building, that will be automatically placed in your inventory towards the end of our celebration event - on April 24th.

One more thing... it may be a good idea to make sure that you keep an eye on our international Facebook page as well as on our Instagram. In the next days we will celebrate with a contest where you can win some nice mobile devices!

Once again, thank you for supporting Forge of Empires! :) We are looking forward to many more years with you!

Sincerely,
Your Forge of Empires Team

PS Naturally, if you have any comments about this very event, please let us know here :).

Easter Event 2016

from The Forge of Empires team on 3/10/16 at 11:02 PM

The egg-citement among your city's population prompted by the old Greva's outfit is back! This time she's not alone though, as Rinbin will have enough dignity (for a change) to support her by wearing a very fluffy and very pink costume.
Your advisors will put on their attires on March 15th.

By following requests of your two furry advisors you will be able to get a lot of small, oval objects to spend for chests containing awesome rewards. You also get quite a few of them as a daily pickup from your town hall. And don't forget about the bunnies! From time to time they will hide some Easter eggs behind bushes, trees and other objects surrounding your city for you to find.

With every opened chest you will also get tulips. Each tulip will contribute to the Grand Prize's progress bar. Once the bar is full, you will get the prize and the bar will reset. The Grand Prize will be also exchanged, so you will get a new goal. There is also a Daily Special available - a unique reward present in each chest. It will change every day (the order is different than on Beta!), so you won't be bored by the lack of opportunities!

You have until April 4th to complete all the tasks from your advisors in disguise. Detailed description of the Easter event mechanics is available on the login page (click). We wish you a lot of fun with our Easter event!
Make sure to leave your comments and thoughts about the event here!

Happy Easter!

Update to 1.61

from The Forge of Empires team on 9/25/15 at 7:43 PM

Hello Kings and Queens,

The update to 1.61 will take place on Thursday, October 1st. This update introduces a new, exciting feature: cross-platform messaging system. And a few bugfixes, too.

There will be a short period of downtime during the update, we apologize for this little inconvenience. Please see the list of changes below:

New things!

The new, cross-platform messaging system

Messages go mobile! The long-awaited feature says "hi!" to all the Android and iOS devices' owners. Soon you will be able to communicate with your friends, neighbors, guild mates and other users on the go.

This also means that our browser players will see a lot of significant changes to the messaging system.

The first thing that you will notice is that we now use much brighter layout. You could have seen a similar one in quests windows before. As we want to give FoE a little bit less 'heavy' feeling, this is the direction that we currently want to take in the visual design of the game.

As you can see on the picture, there is no outbox and inbox anymore. We only have a single Inbox that serves as both - you can see a list of all your conversations with other players in there. Also all the separate conversations with specific players have been merged together; we moved from e-mail style to Facebook-like style a bit.

1:1 conversations are represented by the name and avatar of your interlocutor. Group messages you can recognize by the group name an the group icon. If you have unread messages, there will be a number displayed (1 to 9+). As you can see on the picture above, there is one 1:1 conversation (and you can also see the beginning of the last message) and four group messages.

Conversation window itself is very straightforward:

You can see that entries within a conversation are now sorted differently (up -> down, from oldest to newest). As soon as somebody answers to your message, you will see it in the conversation window. No need to refresh or re-enter the window. It will show up right away.

Whenever you click a portrait of other player, you will see a set of actions that you can take:

Visit, add as friend, invite to guild and (if you believe that somebody misbehaved) report. Of course only the actions that you can actually take are active: as you can see on the picture above, these players are already friends, so they can't become friends again.
When you click your own portrait, you will be able to leave the conversation. Note: this works differently than deleting a conversation in the old system. If you leave a conversation, you leave it for good, so it won't show up again in the future.

If you want to create a new message, you will have to open the second tab:

As you can see, there is a field to enter names (suggestions will show up when you enter first 2 letters) and a button to add all guild members with a single click. You can afterwards edit the list of recipients, for example if you only want to send your message to selected guild members.

If you send a message to more than one player, you will be able to enter a group name. It will be visible in the Inbox.

After the group message has been created, you can click the menu in the top left corner to see two options:

If you leave, the group conversation will be gone for you. If you click "Group info", you will see the list of all the players taking part in the group conversation.
In one of the upcoming versions we plan to implement a nice addition to the groups: group 'creators' will be able to add/remove players from already created groups conversations.

We hope that you like the new, cross-platform communication system . It will be available on mobile about a week after the browser update.

As all the messages have to be converted from the old to the new system, there will be one more short downtime after the update itself during which we will perform the migration.
Keep in mind that the new system works differently, so all the old messages will be marked as read and shown as group conversations (including old 1:1 messages).

All the messages that will be in the 'deleted' state before the migration will be gone for you, so don't delete anything important any more!

Also a small hint: we've allocated some time to smaller improvements, and as we're sure that you will have a lot of nice ideas, don't forget to leave us your feedback!

Bug Fixes

There was an incorrect error message displayed when trying to donate Forge Points to a Great Buildings which was already deleted.
A Flash error in technology tree has been fixed.
Fixed a positioning error in the 'Join guild' screen.

Update to 1,60

from The Forge of Empires team on 9/12/15 at 5:28 PM

Hello Kings and Queens,

The update to 1.60 will take place on Thursday, September 17th. This update will not introduce any big changes, but we have done some smaller improvements, especially to the social bar.
There will be a short period of downtime during the update, we apologize for this little inconvenience. Please see the list of changes below:

Improvements and Changes

The social bar underwent refactoring - a few glitches were removed and overall performance of the bar was improved. We also removed unused activity indicators on the players' avatars.
The entire social bar experience should now be much more smooth, fast and reliable at the same time.

Bug Fixes

Tiger's Den was showing 0% Defence Boost on tooltip.

Treasure Hunt checkmark was vanishing on reloading the game.

Random and hidden rewards were sometimes not shown for auto-completed quests

And just to give you a small hint about what is in progress: we can now reveal that work on the new messaging system (cross-platform, with some new improvements) is almost finished! You will hear more about it in the upcoming changelogs! :)

Hero's Tale

from The Forge of Empires team on 9/7/15 at 5:54 PM

Beloved Audience!

It was the best of times, it was the worst of time, it was the age of barbarism, the epoch of belief.
And unto this, a child was born by the name of An-War. Neither son of a king nor a god, fate had still chosen a unique path for the child.

Let a humble chronicler tell thee of his saga .....

On 10th of September, a storyteller will visit your city and offer to tell you a story of a mighty hero named An-War. If you listen to the full tale, if you manage to complete all the 10 quests of the quest line, you will receive an exclusive reward - a new residential building:

Speaker's Corner - a new residential building with an additional effect of an attack boost that increases the strength of all your units if you take them into battle!

You have exactly one week to complete all the quests - you can do it in browser, as well as on mobile devices.
If you want to know more about what is behind this short event, please watch the latest InnoGames TV episode.

We'll be also happy to hear your feedback, so we encourage you to visit our feedback thread and share your thoughts!

Update 1.59

from The Forge of Empires team on 9/1/15 at 3:02 PM

Hello Kings and Queens,

The update to 1.59 will take place on Thursday September 3rd. This update will introduce the new direct attack feature (previously planned to 1.57) + some smaller changes and a large number of bugfixes.

You may wonder where is version 1.58. As you might have guessed by now (or you could have seen it on Beta), there were only some small bugfixes in it (the size of the visible changes was limited by lots of behind-the-scenes work - you might have read about it in the letter from development team), so we have decided to not update all markets and merge all the changes from the previous version into this one.

There will be a short period of downtime during the update, we apologize for this little inconvenience. Please see the list of changes below:

New things!

Direct attack - originally added in 1.57 changelog, but as it turned out, the feature needed some additional work, so it was turned off for the time being it in order to provide better functionality. From now on you can attack units semi-automatically, by just clicking them. If the enemy unit you have chosen can be reached (represented by red sword icon), your current unit will move to an available position and attack the enemy:

Improvements and Changes

- One of the production names for Chemistry Lab has been renamed from Preservatives to Additives, in order to remove ambiguity.
- The event history description in the Town Hall has been reworded not to reference gifts from friends which is not currently a feature.

Bug Fixes

Some Flash errors were fixed:

When leaving the game running in the background for an extended period of time.
When opening army management.
When clicking avatars in group message.
In 'Remaining Time' tooltip.
In Great Buildings ranking.
In trading window.
In 'Reduce Training Time' window.

Other Bugs that were fixed:

Treasure Hunt presented an error when collecting 8 hour chest rewards.
The 'Research completed' window took up too much space
Clickable area of treasure hunt icon was too large.
Writing a private message was not possible via context menus.
Description in the City Animations section of Settings was inaccurate.
Description of the city animations setting was changed in order to reflect what really happens.
The Guild forum could not be seen after joining a Guild until the user logs out and back in.
Guild Rights changes only took affect after reloading the game.
Negative Diamonds were sometimes displayed as positive.

Update to 1.57

from The Forge of Empires team on 8/3/15 at 7:52 PM

Hello Kings and Queens,

The update to 1.57 will take place on Thursday, August 6th. This update introduces a new direct attack feature + a large number of bugfixes.

There will be a short period of downtime during the update, we apologize for this little inconvenience. Please see the list of changes below:

Improvements and Changes

Direct attack - from now on you can attack units semi-automatically, by just clicking them. If the enemy unit you have chosen can be reached (represented by red sword icon), your current unit will move to the best available position and attack the enemy.

While hovering over an attackable enemy unit, you will see a path that your current unit will take after you have clicked it. After reaching the new position your unit will fire.

You can of course also do it in the oldschool way: first move your unit to the desired position and then attack.

Bug Fixes

In battles where drummer was used, rogues were taking two hits to die and didn't transform if the drummer died first.
The 'Unbirthday Party' quest would sometimes automatically complete and couldn't be aborted.
The 'plundered' icon was shown in own city after plundering another player.
If your friend request got accepted while browsing through the ranking, the game would go into endless loading state.
The 'finish now' button normally shown when starting a building construction, could be dragged around when dragging the city view.
Fixed several Flash errors:
- When placing Great Buildings.
- When opening Army Management.
- During some battles when rendering units.
The Revenge button wasn't greyed out for inactive players in the event history.
Stone Age players were sometimes able to send messages.
Fixed an issue where the idle icon wasn't shown after deleting units.
Some minor issues in the techtree descriptions were fixed.
When trying to interact with a recently sold building an internal error message was being thrown, forcing a refresh.
Diamonds were missing from some packages tooltips.
Too much happiness could be added when building some of the decorations.
In-guild permissions were not updated immediately after being changed, resulting in the need for refresh.

Update to 1.56

from The Forge of Empires team on 7/22/15 at 1:28 PM

Hello Kings and Queens,

The update to 1.56 will take place on Thursday, July 23rd. This update introduces some polishing changes and fixes quite a few bugs in the game
There will be a short period of downtime during the update, we apologize for this little inconvenience. Please see the list of changes below:

Improvements and Changes

Basing on players' feedback, the quest windows underwent some polishing:

- the size of the quest text has been further increased,

- animation effect has been added to an icon of a reward that can be collected,

- some elements were slightly moved to improve readability and allow more space for text.
Some small tutorial improvements have been developed.

Bug Fixes

It was impossible to buy Forge Points when a technology window was open.
One of the guild flag pictures was missing.
Population blimps were sometimes displayed twice on completion of residential building.
Some random rewards in quests were showing '0' when collecting.
Portrait of quest giver was sometimes missing in the quest window.
Sometimes, even though a quest was completed, the progress bar was shown as unfinished.
Paved Road was wrongly listed under Late Middle Age in the techtree info windows.
Bronze Age 'Bush' was listed twice in the techtree info windows.
Reaching happiness level necessary to complete a quest, didn't always trigger the quest completion.
After researching stilt houses the tutorial was not blocked until the new age window appeared.
Quest giver was glowing during the tutorial, even when it was only possible to click the tutorial arrows.
It was possible to activate the city HUD during battle via the Great Building reward window.
Bazaar productions were not counted towards quest progress in production-based quests.
The 'attack possible' icon was shown even when attack was blocked by ability or by an obstacle.

Update to 1.55

from The Forge of Empires team on 7/7/15 at 5:36 PM

Hello Kings and Queens,

The update to 1.55 will take place on Thursday, July 9th. This time we bring you some interesting changes to the game. Especially the new quest UI should catch your eye.
There will be a short period of downtime during the update, we apologize for this little inconvenience. Please see the list of changes below:

Improvements and Changes

There are two types of the summary window. The first one, just a short summary of what will come up, for the eras that you haven't unlocked yet:

...and the second one, for the eras that you already have access to:

This feature will be activated a few hours after the update.

Improved usability and new layout for quest windows.

From now on you will click less and see more with our new, improved quest UI. The quests windows became brighter and easier to read. And it's easier to use, as each step takes less clicking now:

Header line will now display a type of the quest as well as the questgiver's name. Title of the quest has been moved a bit lower and located just above the quest text. Even more important than the layout is the usability: it now takes less clicks to accept quests and to complete them. The additional quest completion window is gone and the summary will be displayed directly in the quest window (where you can now also read the initial quest text).

Player redirection improvements.
We now make sure that our new players always reach correct language version when they visit FoE for the first time.
Account deletion changes.
From now on, following accounts will be removed from the game worlds:
- Stone Age and Bronze Age accounts: account has less than 301 Diamonds and has been inactive for at least 30 days.
- Iron Age and Early Middle Age accounts: account has less than 50 Diamonds and has been inactive for at least 30 days.
- Higher ages are currently excluded from deletion.

Bug Fixes

Quests in which a player was tasked with making their subjects angry, the quest condition didn't work as expected.
After clicking some of the technologies in the technology tree, the pop-up windows could be too large.
Costs to unlock a technology could be displayed as negative values.
"Your needs" drop down menu in the market window was sometimes broken and not displaying any items.
Aiding a player after clicking double arrow (to go to rank 1) caused the social bar to refocus on the current player. Also a few other issues with unstable behavior of the social bar were fixed.
An internal error could be displayed if AI was unable to find a valid move during a battle.
Attack/Defense boost was not recalculated directly after building/demolishing/connecting/disconnecting buildings that affect the battle boosts.

Summer Event 2015

from The Forge of Empires team on 6/10/15 at 3:22 PM

Dear Kings and Queens,

Say hello to Greva's Summer Casino! This year she decided to go with an oriental theme: sun, sand, mystery and exotic rewards. There are awesome prizes to be won in your neighborhood, so make sure you visit Greva's Summer Casino! If you missed some of our previous events, now you have the chance to compete with your neighbors to claim some of those old event items. Plus you can win other prizes and, obviously, brand new summer event items.

The event runs from Wednesday, June 17th to Wednesday, July 8th. Good news for all mobile users: the event will be fully accessible and functional in our Android and iOS apps!

To spin the Wheel of Fortune in the Summer Casino you need tickets, which Greva (and not only Greva this time!) is more than happy to help you with... in exchange for completing tasks, of course. If you manage to complete all of her tasks you will also earn yourself 250 Diamonds!

To access the Casino, click the bar at the top left corner of your screen:

You will now see the Summer Casino window, containing the wheel, a neighborhood spins bar, a neighborhood actions log, and some buttons to spin or refresh the wheel. Remember that your neighborhood shares the wheel - when you refresh it, it's refreshed for everyone. When you grab a prize, it is gone for everyone.
The most recent wins are displayed at the bottom of the Summer Casino window, so that you can keep an eye on who's winning which prize.

Spinning the Wheel

In order to spin the wheel, you first need to earn tickets. Greva Darn will help yougain some tickets, as she will need your help with a delicate, personal problem. Help her out and she will reward you with tickets to spend in her Summer Casino. If you're advancing very quickly through the questline there are also a few bonus quests that you might activate, which are more difficult and provide a slightly bigger challenge, for a chance at an extra ticket. You can also use Diamonds if you just can't resist waiting for the next spin!

One spin costs one ticket, and results in one prize. Alternatively, you can "refresh and spin" to call up a whole new set of prizes for your neighborhood. No matter what you choose, you will always win a prize!

Prizes

The prizes displayed in the Wheel are available for every player in your neighborhood to claim. The prizes are random but, don't worry, every Wheel always has something special that can be won, and each prize can be won by up to 4 lucky spinners (you can see how many of each prize is left in the circle surrounding the image of the prize). If, for example, you win one of a specific prize where 4 are available, it is removed from the wheel and only 3 of them will remain for your neighbors to win. This goes on until all the prizes in the wheel run out, at which point the wheel is automatically refreshed with a new set of prizes. It is also possible for any player in your neighborhood to refresh the wheel at anytime.

As mentioned already, you have a chance to win old event items, such as the Champion's Retreat or the Decorated Baobab (from last year's Summer Event), and even the very valuable Wishing Well!

And of course we also have brand new rewards: special oriental-themed summer avatars (challenge yourself and try to collect the full set!) and, most importantly, four new buildings:

Refreshing the Wheel

You can refresh the Wheel of Fortune at any time to call a whole new set of prizes to your neighborhood's wheel. Remember that whenever you refresh the wheel, it is also refreshed for all your neighbors. The wheel will automatically refresh once all prizes are won.

Shared neighborhood prize

In addition to the individual prizes, every spin, or "refresh and spin", is counted towards a total of 77 spins in your neighborhood. Once your neighborhood reaches the magic number of 77, every player in the neighborhood gets 20 medals. After 77 spins, the counter resets so that you and your neighborhood can try and win more medals.

We hope you enjoy spinning the wheel and winning the prizes. If you'd like to discuss the event, please visit our discussion thread you can also watch a Summer Video.

Thank you for playing Forge of Empires and... enjoy the summer!

Sincerely,
The Forge of Empires Team

Update to 1.53

from The Forge of Empires team on 6/8/15 at 1:42 PM

Hello Kings and Queens,

The update to 1.53 will take place on Thursday, June 11th. This update does not contain any directly visible improvements (just a few bugfixes), as most of the work done during this release cycle were code improvements and internal refactoring. But... those things have to be handled as well :). We'll bring you more interesting features and changes in the future releases! :)

There will be a short period of downtime during the update, we apologize for this little inconvenience. Please see the list of changes below:

Bug Fixes

It was possible to access promo actions that were set to hidden.

Under some rare circumstances it was impossible to access world map.

It was impossible to complete one of the older story quests, while being in Tomorrow Era.

The tooltip for motivated Witch Doctor was displayed incorrectly after production has finished.

A great number of small code glitches were fixed during the release cycle - this should decrease the overall chance of new bugs popping up in the future.

Update to 1.52

from The Forge of Empires team on 5/23/15 at 3:11 PM

Hello Kings and Queens,

The update to 1.52 will take place on Thursday, May 28th. It includes some minor improvements and
There will be a short period of downtime during the update, we apologize for this little inconvenience. Please see the list of changes below:

Improvements and Changes

The negative happiness (for example from Junkyard) will be deducted from the provided happiness and not added to the demand for happiness.
The decimal separator is no longer shown if the number after it would be just 0.
Number are no longer abbreviated if there is less than 6 digits to be shown in total.
The login page will now show a new, improved social media widget, containing links to all four main social media channels.

Bug Fixes

There was an exploit allowing players to have more than one town hall in the city.
A similar exploit made it possible to edit the size of expansions. The vulnerability has been patched. We'd like to thank our friendly user from Ukraine who kindly reported both problems.
In the PvP Tournament Notification, the text containing your rank and the amount of medals that you've won could leave the allotted space.
The "Close" button in the guild overview window was actually displayed as "Save", even when it was impossible to edit or save anything.
Attempt to collect Forge Points from Town Hall while having already at least 10 Forge Points available, was resulting in an internal error.
When construction is finished, there was only "+" blimp of population but no "-" blimp of happiness. The missing blimps were added.
The social bar advance buttons weren't always working correctly, scrolling through the neighborhood and stopping at a random spot.
'Greva's Locker' package description was sometimes incorrect.

Easter Event 2015

from The Forge of Empires team on 3/18/15 at 10:49 PM

Dear Kings and Queens,

What an eggsellent Easter time this is! Really happy and absolutely-not-grumpy Greva Darn will need your help again on 25th of March. Your assistance will not be forgotten: she will reward you with beautiful Easter Eggs that you can use to obtain various valuable rewards - not only already well-known renovation kits, blueprints and buildings from previous events, but also brand new items, previously unseen in the game!

The event is going to be available cross-platform, so you can enjoy it on the go as well :).

Getting started

During the event, a new resource will be added to the game... Easter eggs! There are two ways to gather eggs: you can collect eggs other players have placed in your city, or you can complete the Easter quests to earn eggs as rewards. An egg counter is displayed in the top left corner of the game window.
You can trade your Easter eggs with Greva, who will remain in your city throughout the event and for several days after the event has ended the event will end on April 8th, but you can still trade till April 12th.

Collecting eggs / hiding eggs in other players' cities

When you log into the game, you might see some colourful egg icons hovering over your decorations.
<p>

This is an indicator that there are Easter eggs hidden behind the decoration, placed there by another player. To collect the egg, click the decoration, and your egg counter will increase. A coloured egg animation appears over the decoration, showing you what kind of egg you found. Each variety of egg has a different "egg value". So, for example, if you find the pale blue egg, this is worth 5 eggs which will be added to your egg counter. Try to find out which is the most valuable one!

Hiding eggs in other cities requires hiding actions. Just like with Forge Points, you have a hiding actions counter, which increments by 1 each hour, to a limit of 6 hiding actions in the action bar. You can see how many hiding actions are available right next to your Easter eggs counter.

<p>

If you have actions available, you'll be given an option when visiting other cities to hide an egg, along with the usual options to polish or motivate a player's buildings. To hide an egg, it must be placed in a decoration. Grey eggs will indicate where it's possible to hide an egg for the other player to find! Placing one egg will cost you 1 hiding action.

<p>

While this is the "traditional" way to hide eggs, there is also way faster and more convenient way - simply click eggs icon next to another player's avatar:

<p>

A pop-up window will let you know where you hid the egg.

If you run out of hiding actions, you can either wait for your actions to increase again, or you can click the "+" icon in the hiding action bar to purchase additional actions with Diamonds.

The Easter Trader

You can trade your Easter eggs with Greva (and this is what makes them valuable). To access the trade window, simply click the eggs counter.

<p>

At the trader, you'll find a selection of finest items available: a cornucopia, a brand new unit, buildings, renovation kits... And you can also find 3 mystery chests - bronze, silver and gold - which contain different prizes, including special buildings. Your chances of finding different items will be shown in the tooltip when you hover over a chest. For every item you buy from the trader, you will see a green dot appear over the item. Checking off every item at the trader unlocks the special collection reward - the Shrine of Awe - which is added to your inventory. After you've won it, the reward - and all items - are reset, so you can try to win it again!

On April 12th the trader will leave and you'll lose any remaining eggs, so be sure to spend them before April 12th!

We hope you enjoy the event. Oh... and one more thing: stay tuned for more information about rewards! They're coming up soon :).

If you wish to leave any feedback about the event, please visit our discussion thread here.

Update to 1.47

from The Forge of Empires team on 3/13/15 at 12:14 AM

Hello Kings and Queens,

The update to 1.47 will take place on Thursday, March 19th. A lot of bugfixes and preparations for the new age were done this time (you can already check it out on Beta) and also a new event was developed (not a secret any more, you will be able to play it soon!).
There will be a short period of downtime during the update, we apologize for this little inconvenience. Please see the list of changes below:

Changes

In battles a unit will now always issue at least 1 damage point on its target. It doesn't matter how big the gap between the units ages is. This change was introduced to avoid possible stalemates. Units that can hide (and thus become immune to distance attacks during a battle) of course keep their ability.
The chat and social bar are now disabled during the tutorial to make sure that new players are not distracted by irrelevant parts of the user interface.
Missile Artillery isn't vanishing anymore in GvG if the attacked army gets defeated by another player before the fight is over. We have changed this behavior based on your feedback.

Improvements

The tournament notification window was introduced to the game:

<p>
Additionally, players who did not participate in any recent tournament, will see a new pop-up window that will inform them about a just-finished tournament and offer a possibility to join the upcoming ones.

Bugfixes

Defender could see the attacker's unattached units in battle result screen, as they were marked with the unattached badge. This is not possible any more.
Smoke animations were only shown for watchfires in other players' cities. From now on they will be shown correctly for all buildings.
In some cases it was possible to place a building outside of the city area by using the swap function.
Blimps of finished constructions were shown to visiting players in the very moment when the construction was completed.

A few Flash errors occurring in various circumstances and different areas of the game were fixed:

1. After accepting a merchant offer in the market.
2. After returning to the guild province map from a battle.
3. After locking and then unlocking a computer while the game was open all the time in the background.

Update to 1.43

from The Forge of Empires team on 1/19/15 at 5:11 PM

Hello Kings and Queens,

The update to 1.43 will take place on Thursday 22nd January. We have focused on bugfixing and some various small improvements, including a few that were suggested by you - our players.
There will be a short period of downtime during the update, we apologize for this little inconvenience.

A question that might be bothering you - where is version 1.42? This update in fact combines both versions 1.42 and 1.43 in one bigger package.

Improvements and changes

A new way of displaying long numbers
It was the case for a while now, that the very long numbers did not always fit their allotted space. To solve that problem, very long numbers are now abbreviated in various places of the game.

Attached/Unattached units filter
This is a feature that was requested some time ago by you - our players. We have added a new filter in the army management that will allow you to display only attached or unattached units, according to your current needs.

Other improvements

The PvP Army Management window received some polishing touches.
When hovering over a guild's sector, all of the guild's sectors are now highlighted.
Some texts and tool tips in the game were slightly improved and adjusted.
Time display in some places was improved.
Tutorial received lots of minor changes that, although not directly visible, should make things more obvious to new players.
An Aid-related entry is now added to the event history, when an Aid action was not possible.
If the tournaments are running, it is now easily possible to reach all the PvP rankings from the ages that you have already conquered via the event history.

Bugfixes

Fixed an issue where damaged units were not updated in military buildings after auto-battle.
Fixed an issue causing a Flash error on levelling up Royal Albert Hall.
Animations were only running once in certain places of the game.
The cancel button was sometimes greyed out when placing an expansion.
There were some missing goods tool tips in goods buildings.
Fixed an issue where the tutorial does not correctly show after refreshing.
The Aid button in the event history was not greyed after a player left the guild.
Fixed an issue where the aid button in event history not greyed out when target player was attacked.
Used missile artillery units could reappear in battle if the player closes and then continues a battle.
Fixed an issue where the context window does not appear when clicking on any Avatar in the Global Ranking window.
Fixed an issue preventing players from contributing FPs to neighbour's Great Buildings.
Sell mode was not cancelled after selling was cancelled in confirmation window.
The event history window was sometimes coming up unexpectedly during battles.
The contributors list in Great Buildings was sometimes incorrectly ordered.
The game was crashing sometimes when returning to the own city when neighbour's city hasn't been fully loaded.
Winter market animation was missing for polished winter market.
The cancel button was sometimes missing when placing an expansion.
On the right side bar idle icon didn't always disappear when using "collect all" for military buildings.
Overlapping of buildings when moving them was sometimes wrong.
There was a useless piece of text in the town hall. It was removed.
When clicking on a tower of the PvP line in the top row of the event history, the line was getting shifted to the left.

The update to 1.41 will take place on Wednesday, December 10th. We have focused on bugfixing and some various small improvements. We also integrated new music themes into the game!
There will be a short period of downtime during the update, we apologize for this little inconvenience.

Improvements and changes

Some background animations have been added - you can now see rabbits, birds and deer in your city's surroundings. Enjoy the nature!
Two brand new pieces of music have been added to the game soundtrack. One for High Middle Age to Colonial Age and the other one for Industrial Age and later.
Several new city sounds have been added to Industrial Age and later eras.
Smoke animations now fade out instead of just disappearing.
The fierce resistance bonus and military bonus icons have been changed.
Players are now able to disable clouds in GVG.
It is now impossible to collect units from military buildings if a player has more than 2000 units in the army pool. It is still possible to get units from quests, even when above the limit. After reaching 2500 units in the pool, it is impossible to get any more units.
After using Aid feature, a notification will be shown, informing user which building has been polivated.
The "time to heal" window in a military building now displays more accurately.
Some visual changes to the very first parts of the tutorial have been implemented.

Bugfixes

Fixed an issue where the neighborhood bar occasionally shows negative points.
Fixed a formatting error on the guild dissolve pop-up window.
Fixed an issue where unit sprites were sometimes disproportional due to screen resolution.
The ‘Buy Forge Points’ button is now correctly greyed out when the player has maximum Forge Points.
Fixed an issue where the Collect All buff didn’t show after contributing Forge Points to another players GB.
Fixed an issue where some animations were randomly missing from city overview.
Fixed an issue where button text was missing on buildings during construction.
"Go to invites" and "Go to the guild" buttons in Event History were not always working - this has been fixed.
Fixed an issue where collecting Forge Points from Shrine of Knowledge did not remove "Collect All" button.
Fixed an issue where the Aid timer in social bar was not removed when timer runs out while viewing a screen without social bar.
Fixed an issue where goods were deducted even if not sufficient, resulting in negative numbers.
There was an issue where Aid feature was causing endless loading when there was nothing to polish/motivate.
Fixed an issue with the event history where the aid button was greyed out for friends and guild members.
The buttons in event history no longer greyed out when player can't be polivated, this has been fixed.

Winter Event 2014

from The Forge of Empires team on 11/27/14 at 2:18 PM

Dear Kings and Queens,

We will start the next week in a very "Frosty" way. On Monday, December 1st, Frosty the Snowman will make one more return visit to your empire, bringing with him new quests and missions for the winter season.

Each day in December brings a new challenge you can complete in exchange for some of our seasonal currency – Winter Stars! Collect as many as you can, because you will use the Stars to open presents in our winter window.

And this time, the gust of freezing wind will also cool down your mobile devices! The event will be also accessible on iPad and iPhone.

Every day brings a new set of presents containing goodies such as Forge Points, blueprints, units and buildings… and there’s also a special prize every day, which is displayed in the top corner of the window and can be found in one of the presents… the prize could be extra stars, valuable buildings from previous events, renovation kits or a special winter building.

Each day you’ll have 24 hours to open presents from a selection. You’ll see the presents – all open – which you have to shuffle to get started. After shuffling, the presents will be wrapped up again and to open every present you will have to spend 10 Stars. When the countdown runs out, the presents reset and a new special prize takes the previous one’s place, so make sure you don't miss out and get your present before it disappears! If you do happen to miss a special winter bonus building you simply have to have, then it can be bought the next day for Diamonds (in most cases).

Special tiles

In addition to the regular gifts, there’s also a chance you might stumble upon a special reward tile when you open a present. These are:

Shuffle
Presents are reset and must be shuffled again. You also gain 10 Stars when pressing the start button.

Double payout
The next reward is doubled... even buildings are given out twice!

Show 2
The contents of two unopened presents are revealed (but not taken) + you get 3 stars.

New, unique buildings and avatars

Two new festive avatars are available to be snapped up in this year's winter event (not to mention Frosty's pretty face, if you don't possess it yet), and we've got two new winter buildings to collect throughout December and into early January: Gingerbread House and, as you could have expected, an improved Confectionery. If you already have a Confectionery, you will be able to get its larger version, and if this one is also in your city, you will have a chance to obtain a brand new Huge Confectionery towards the end of the event! Also all of the Winter buildings from the previous years will be available again: The Nutcracker, Snow Globe, Log Cabin, Festive Tree, Winter Gate with its two Gate Statues, and of course the Reindeer Paddock.
If you manage to get all of them, you can get yourself pretty nice winter village!

We also have a special Winter Event video for you to enjoy, viewable here

The Winter Event ends on January 5th, 2015.

We hope you enjoy the event, and we wish you all the best for winter/Christmas and the coming new year.

Sincerely,

The Forge of Empires Team

Update to 1.40

from The Forge of Empires team on 11/20/14 at 8:08 PM

Hello Kings and Queens,

The update to 1.40 will take place on Wednesday, November 26th. This time we introduce a brand new "Aid" feature that will make it possible to help out your friends and guild mates in a more convenient way - you can now polish or motivate directly from your own city!

Aid
You can now polish or motivate a random (almost) building in the city of another player by simply clicking a button below his portrait on the social bar. This will not require visiting the city. Attack button in the social bar has been moved to a small button and the Aid button is now in place of the previous Attack button:

Aid button automatically motivates or polishes a building of the respective player without visiting him.
How exactly the order of aid works? It's very simple system:

Buildings like “Shrine of Knowledge” or “Tigers’ Den” that trigger an additional effect when motivated/polished (most recent age) are prioritized.
If there are no such buildings available or all of them are already polished/motivated, the feature will enhance a random building from the most recent age.

You will also find the Aid button in the Event history - if someone helped you, you can instantly return their kindness.
It is still possible to visit a player and choose which action to do and which building to polish/motivate. Which way will you choose? This is entirely up to you!

Other changes and improvements

The "moon" icon is back for goods buildings.
The registration form has been slightly improved to make the registration process easier and more understandable.
Tutorial graphical assets have been adjusted, to make sure that new players do not have troubles understanding the tutorial steps.
The pop-up window for residential buildings has been changed to make it consistent with production buildings.
Some battle tooltips have been slightly improved.
Great Building construction info in the Inventory has been improved.
Animations will be disabled automatically if the game detects that a player is running out of video memory.
As of this update the new engine will be activated for all players and the old engine deactivated

Bugfixes

UI bugfixes

Names for some of the GvG sectors were displayed incorrectly.
It was possible to have negative points on the neighborhood bar.

Other bugfixes

Registration mails were not sent when player unsubscribed "regular" e-mails from FoE.
It was sometimes possible to move helicopter to already occupied position.
In some cases missile artillery was not giving any battle points.
MIRV couldn't hit the maximum of 4 enemy units.
A context loss while the game was running in the background could result in a crash.

Summer Event 2014

from The Forge of Empires team on 8/6/14 at 4:32 PM

Dear Kings and Queens,

Summer is heating up again and Greva Darn is back in town with her Summer Casino! There are awesome prizes to be won in your neighbourhood. If you missed some of our previous events, now you have the chance to compete with your neighbours to claim some of those old event items, plus you can win other prizes and even brand new summer event items, too.

The event runs from Wednesday, August 13th to Wednesday, August 27th.

To take part in the summer casino you need tickets, which Greva is more than happy to help you with... in exchange for completing tasks, of course.

To access the casino, click the summer casino bar at the top left corner of your screen.

You will now see the summer casino window, containing a casino wheel, a neighbourhood spins bar, a neighbourhood actions log, and some buttons to spin or refresh the wheel. Remember that you share the wheel with your neighbourhood - when you refresh it, it's refreshed for everyone. When you grab a prize, it is gone for everyone.

Spinning the wheel
In order to spin the wheel, you first need to earn tickets. Greva Darn will help in this area, as she has a series of quests you can complete in exchange for tickets to spend in the summer casino. If you're advancing very quickly through the quest line there are also a few bonus quests which you might activate, which are more difficult and will provide a slightly bigger challenge, for a chance at an extra ticket. You can also use Diamonds if you just can't resist waiting for that next spin!

One spin costs one ticket, and results in one prize. Alternatively, you can "refresh and spin" to call up a whole new set of prizes for your neighbourhood. No matter what you choose, you will always win a prize!

Prizes
The prizes displayed in the wheel are available for every player in your neighbourhood to claim, with 4 of each displayed prize being available initially (you can see how many of each item is left in the circle surrounding the wheel items). The prizes are random but, don't worry, every wheel always has something special that can be won by up to 4 lucky spinners. If, for example, you win one of a specific prize where 4 are available, it is removed from the wheel and only 3 of them will be remaining for your neighbours to win. This goes on until all the prizes in the wheel run out, at which point the wheel is automatically refreshed with a fully stocked new set of prizes. It is also possible for any player in your neighbourhood to refresh the wheel.

As mentioned already, you have a chance to win old event items, such as the Champion's Retreat and the Sandcastle (from last years Summer Event).

And of course, the event wouldn't be complete without something new, so we've also got special summer avatars to be won. Can you collect the full set? Last but definitely not least, a few brand new summer-themed buildings are available for you to spin for.

Refreshing the wheel
You can refresh the wheel at any time to call a whole new set of prizes to your neighbourhood's wheel. After a wheel refresh, every player in the neighbourhood will have a refreshed wheel with a complete set of new prizes to be won. If all prizes are won from the wheel, it is automatically refreshed.

Shared neighbourhood prize
In addition to the individual prizes, every spin, or refresh and spin, is counted towards a total of 77 spins in your neighbourhood. Once your neighbourhood reaches the magic number of 77, every player in the neighbourhood gets some medals. After 77 spins the counter is reset and can begin again, for a chance to win more medals.

Neighbourhood actions log
To keep track of who's winning what, there is a neighbourhood casino actions log. You can keep an eye on who's winning what, and see who is helping your neighbourhood gain medals through lots of spins.

We hope you enjoy participating in our Summer Event. If you'd like to discuss the event, please see the Discussion Thread here

Soccer Event Buildings

from The Forge of Empires team on 6/15/14 at 10:12 PM

Dear Kings and Queens,

The FoE Soccer Cup has already started and our guess is that you are keen to know more about the new event buildings! Here we go:

Victory Tower

Victory Tower generates medals and has one more nice feature: it does not look the same all the time, so even if you have more than one, they will differ a bit :).

Hall of Fame

Hall of Fame does not only honor your great soccer players, it's also very useful for your guild as it generates power and thus helps you leveling up.

Fan Shop

In the Fan Shop your fans can buy all sorts of supercool items. Cups, flags and all the other things that you need to support your team. Not to mention that it also produces substantial amount of supplies for you.

Neighborhood Cup

The most precious trophy that you can get, because it's not easily obtainable. You really have to try and be among the best coaches in your neighborhood if you want to have it in your city. Your citizens will be happy to see it, so go and get it!

Thanks for playing and enjoy the FoE Soccer Cup!

FoE Soccer Cup

The time has come! The most important tournament in Forge of Empires world will begin on 12th of June. Skilled soccer players will arrive to your neighborhood to compete in FoE Soccer Cup! Do you have enough courage to lead your city to the victory in a thrilling penalty shootout contest? What will you pick? Safe way to a moderate success or will you rather choose more sophisticated and risky yet potentially much more profitable way? The choice is your, coach!

Use your shots wise and get as many cups as you possibly can! Then trade them for supercool event buildings and other prizes that are available in the event window. Fan shop, victory tower and many more are waiting for you to get them!

The event runs from June 12th - July 13th, and you can trade your cups until July 20th.

Event window

All the action takes place in the event window that will be presented to you by your favorite jester Rinbin!
Olé, olé, olé! The soccer fever has gotten into me!

The shootout
You're taking part in a penalty shootout contest and you can choose how to shoot. Each option has its cons and pros. You can take a certain shot and win a few cups. But you can also take your chance and try one of the other options and (maybe) get much more! It's all up to you. Oh, and don't forget - each time you miss the target you increase the jackpot, so the first person from your neighborhood that actually puts the ball in the net takes it all :).
One more thing that you can't forget about are your fans! You can use their support to increase your chances (this will cost you a few cups though).

Scoring goals
If you have enough luck to trick the goalkeeper into a mistake, you will win the entire cups pool that has accumulated for this particular shot option:

Grabbing prizes
You can win the Neighborhood Cup if you're among the best coaches in your neighborhood. You should try and get it, it's much more than just a cup. It's a symbol of glory and fame!
All the other prizes change every couple of hours, so you won't get bored :).

We hope you'll enjoy the event!

“Contact!”: Retaliate against all attacks with your machine gun teams

New "breaking the happiness" functionality will display both good and bad sides of the world a lot of us used to live in:

Build a toy factory, produce supplies and make your citizens even more happy!

Build a junkyard, get even more supplies, but hey... who would like to live next to it?

PvE fights just became much more amusing - On Postmodern Era map you will have to defeat 2 waves of fierce opponents. You lost? Sorry! You can always try again, but Che Guerrero and Minh-Ho Chi won't make it easy!

Balancing changes
We have also changed stats of some items that we already have in-game, as we need them to be adjusted to Postmodern Era.

GvG-related changes

To combat GvG hopping, a new system has been implemented to stop players from rejoining a guild they have left for 7 days. This will also solve a few other long-existing non-GvG issues there were caused by accounts leaving and rejoining their guilds.

From now on, one player can grant freedom to a sector only 4 times per day. This solution has been implemented to prevent abuses that might happen when not-exactly-trusted guild member is accidentally given "trusted" right. The limit resets at daily calculation.

Siege army unit cost has been removed. The requirement to field a siege army with full units was a bit confusing to new players and was also hindering activity for guilds that fight across multiple ages. For this reason we implemented following changes:

Placing a siege army no longer costs or requires having a currently selected army.
When a siege army is placed (by paying goods), "matching" units are automatically copied from the player's current army. "Matching" means "units of the correct era". If there are empty unit slots or non-matching units in the player's army, the missing units are randomly selected from that age (excluding, as always, special units like barbarians, rogues etc.).

Other changes

The background image for the landing page has been updated.
Several minor improvements on the Login page.
